December 31, 2007 - For Immediate Release: Ohio Valley Racing Announces the 8th annual Summer Solstice Bike Race, June 13 – 15, 2007 in Wilmington, Ohio.

The 2008 Summer Solstice Bike Race, including the general classification points race, announces its race routes, expanded offerings for bike racers and families, and new collaborations with the Davis Phinney Foundation, and local Wilmington festival activities.

"The 2008 Summer Solstice has a mix of tried and true, as well as new and exciting this year," said Race Director Glen Schoenung. "We’ll be conducting races on the same courses as 2007. The Friday night road race, Saturday road race and time trial, and Sunday road race; include a spicy combination of speedy flats, rollers through the countryside, and top it off with climb or two. New this year, we’re adding a Family Fun ride Saturday morning, and planning a rest stop at the Banana Split Festival in Wilmington. The 40K (25 mile) ride is open to all. We invite families to stay and watch exciting Tour de France-style bike racing for the rest of the day, and check out the musical groups and festival in Wilmington on Saturday night. The Summer Solstice brings in hundreds of bike racers and their families from both the local area, and from more than 10 states. Our goal is to welcome 600 riders and their families, as well as touring cyclists and spectators for a weekend of racing and activities this year."

Registration is available through Bikereg.com.

The weekend begins with a twilight race Friday evening, June 13th, followed by a reception for racers and families. The nerve center for this year’s event will again by the Roberts Centre of Wilmington, just off of Interstate 71, on SR 68, exit #50 in southwest Ohio. Saturday June 14th kicks off with a Family Fun Ride; followed by late morning road racing, and culminating with the excitement of the individual Time Trial. Sunday’s road race starts bright and early, with an awards ceremony following for the points series, and a grill-out for racers and families. The races and ride will be staged primarily in Clinton County, Ohio and near the city of Wilmington, and the National Scenic Little Miami River.

New – ride to help others this year: The 2008 Summer Solstice Bike Race has a charitable partner, Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and Wellness (DPF).
